Anzy Home

Anzy Home is a Ukrainian-based brand of handcrafted home decor and furniture. It started as a hobby by Anna Zmiievska, a native of the Donetsk region, and her mom Natalia. After the Russian invasion in the east of Ukraine in 2014, Anna and her family moved to the Kharkiv region, and that's where their artisan journey began. The women started experimenting with knitting thick cotton yarn, creating their first items such as baskets and bags. Poufs and rugs followed, and what started as a hobby slowly turned into a business.
"I absolutely love decorating homes, and my aesthetics are warmth and coziness; the hygge concept resonates with me. Knit wool and cotton items are the ones that first come to mind when I'm thinking about warmth and comfort," said Anna Zmiievska.

The story of Anzy Home started in 2016, and over the years, the family-owned brand started offering a wide range of items such as knit and crochet poufs, rugs, pillows, storage baskets, chunky knit and weighted blankets, and throws. Since 2018, Anzy Home has been selling globally, and today the company has thousands of happy customers all over the world.

Artisans in Anzy Home use a variety of traditional techniques such as hand knitting, hand crocheting, macrame, weaving, and tapestry.

"Chunky-knit blankets can only be made by hand since machine knitting is impossible with the super thick yarn and wool," said Zmiievska.

"I'm testing and using almost every Anzy Home item in my own home - rugs, poufs, baskets, blankets - and my kids are 'testing' the baby line and accessories for the kids' room," said Zmiievska.

  • Eco-friendliness. Preference is given to natural materials like cotton, wool, and wood.
  • Authentic techniques. Crafters at Anzy Home use crochet and knitting techniques rooted in traditional Ukrainian tapestry. The technique has been adapted to work with contemporary materials and create stylish products.
  • Customer focus and full customization. Whether a small basket or a large rug, each product can be fully customized by design, shape, color, and size to meet specific wishes. The Modern Heritage works directly with Anna Zmiievska and her team to ensure the creation of items that meet individual preferences and needs.
  • Social responsibility. Anzy Home's artisans are Ukrainian women of all ages and backgrounds, including many elderly women who have had knitting as their hobby for ages. By working with Anzy Home, they get to do what they truly love and receive fair pay for their skilled work. "People are the most important aspect of our work. Our artisans are women of all ages and social statuses, including retired women and single mothers. They're able to support themselves and their families by doing what they truly love," said Zmiievska. "It's extremely important to us to give opportunities to Ukrainian women, especially those who are the most vulnerable, to make a living by doing what they're skilled at and truly enjoy," said Zmiievska. "Every loom, every stitch has the heart and soul of Ukrainian women."

One of the most integral parts of Anzy Home is the materials  used, such as thick cotton yarn made from cotton strips. Before the invasion, the cotton yarn for Anzy Home was made by a small local Kharkiv factory that had to close its doors due to the war. Anna started looking for new yarn suppliers but wasn't satisfied with the quality of the existing options. As a result, Anzy Home began making their own thick yarn from high-quality Turkish cotton.

With the ongoing war in Ukraine, job prospects became scarce, and for many, working with Anzy Home is the only opportunity to support their families today.

"Women gather to knit in our office, they chat and usually put on some TV show for entertainment. Our artisans take a lot of pride in every item they create. Quality over quantity is our main goal, and every collection is limited," said Zmiievska.

After the war started in Ukraine, the company had to pivot. Anzy Home stopped all its operations for three months as they had to relocate the office from Kharkiv to a safer region in Ukraine.
